Since 1988, Florida's public waters alligator harvest has been nationally and internationally recognized as a model program. Each year, Alligator Harvest Management Units (delineated areas that contain sovereign waters and/or publicly-owned properties) are established with conservative harvest quotas to provide recreational opportunities for Floridians, and non-residents as well, to take up to 2 alligators. Only persons 18 years old and older are eligible to apply for a harvest permit. Applicants are selected through a random drawing process. Submission of fees for an alligator trapping license ($250 for residents, $1,000 for non-residents) and CITES tags ($20) is a prerequisite to permit issuance.
